Why does it hurt so much when a girl rejects me?

Here’s a talk I wish I had with my father. It didn’t happen because I never asked, but maybe one day I’ll have it with my son. Or I’ll just give him this link when the time comes.

– Why does it hurt so much when a girl rejects me?

– Because you think her “no” defines your worth. But it only reflects her choice at that moment, not your value.

– How come? I want her to like me!

– Look at this toolbox. Do you see that pair of pliers?

– Yes, sure. They’re brand new.

– Do you think they’d do a good job pulling out a nail?

– Of course, they’d be perfect for that!

– But what if you need to drive a nail with a hammer? Would the pliers be any less valuable?

– No, of course not!

– Exactly. It’s the same with you.

– But I feel embarrassed and small, inadequate.

– That’s just your ego bruised, not your spirit.

Girls don’t reject you to harm you. They’re simply being true to their feelings. Respect that.
Stop building your identity around someone else’s approval—especially if it’s just one person.

– Okay, but why do I miss her so much that it hurts?

– Attraction is natural. Obsession is suffering.
Keep your heart open, but your mind grounded.
When you are full within, no one person’s “no” will break you.

Rejection is not failure—it’s redirection.
Life is showing you where to invest your energy.
Not all roads are straight. Sometimes you take a wrong turn and end up at a dead end.
You go back, and you carry on.
That doesn’t make the experiences you had on that path any less valuable, nor the sights you saw any less beautiful.

Every rejection is preparing you for someone who truly sees you.
Be patient. Become the man you’re meant to be.

Remember: You didn’t lose anything real—you never had it.
What’s yours will never need chasing.

A “no” today may be your greatest gift tomorrow.
Keep walking. Your story is still unfolding.
